BAPTISM OF RUSSIA
The idea of creating an international organization “Day of the Baptism of Rus’ originated in Golosiyivska desert to celebrate the great event in the life of the Church – the Baptism of Kievan Rus. The parishioners of the monastery during spiritual conversation with the Vicar Archimandrite Isaac started thinking about why such a momentous event for our people, and celebrated almost goes unnoticed. But if it were not for the Baptism of Russia, it would not be her resurrection.
In 2006, members of the public, business, culture and art under the spiritual guidance of Archimandrite Isaac joined the International NGO “Day of the Baptism of Rus’. Chairman of the organization Oleg Krivosheya (Karamazov) was elected. One of its main tasks was the creation of an annual tradition of celebrating the Day of the Baptism of Rus peoples of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and other countries. celebration date chosen by chance – July 28, the day of memory of Prince Vladimir, the Baptist of Russia.
With the blessing of His Beatitude Volodymyr in 2007 it was held the first in the modern history of the celebration of the Day of the Baptism of Russia in Kiev. In 2008, it held the anniversary celebration – the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism on the Dnieper River. concert tour in 23 largest cities of Ukraine was organized with the participation of contemporary musicians, well-known public figures, representatives of science and the clergy, gathered millions of spectators from all over Ukraine.
In 2009, members of the organization take an active part in the coverage of the first visit to Ukraine of His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. In 2010, the celebration of the Baptism of Rus’ was held under the auspices of the 65th anniversary of the Victory anniversary in the Great Patriotic War. Throughout the anniversary year held a charity event “The World”, dedicated to veterans. It was connected SMS number 1945 and conducted a telethon on the First National Channel of Ukraine, through which managed to raise funds for the hospital that treats veterans of World War II. In the same year, on the banks of the Dnieper River, near the walls of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the temple was built in honor of St. Prince Vladimir, who became the first building in the grand complex in honor of the baptism of Rus.
In 2011, with the blessing of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, the Day of the Baptism of Rus was first celebrated in the international format – at the same time, July 28, the festival was held in Moscow, Kiev and Minsk.
